This is a unique story about the world’s largest Viking ship, the “Dragon Harald Fairhair” and how some of Norway’s best traditional boatbuilders solve the task of recreating a warship, of 25-esse, i.e. with 50 oars and 100 oarsmen. This seagoing ship is 34 meters long, and rigged with a 290 m2 square sail of red silk.
The story is told by one of the boatbuilders in the project, Arne-Terje Sæther. The text is accompanied by stunning photographs, all of which are take by the author himself. Together, the provide an intimate insight into the actual building process, the working methods and the sail trial.
