Narvik War Museum’s collections contain many items, photographs and other objects with unique stories. In the project “Object of the Month”, we will present a new object each month from the museum’s collection on our website.
Portable heater for vehicles, made in Germany. These heaters were hazardous due to the carbide fuel which is highly flammable. Text on the object: “Katalytofen Original Autowarm D.R.P”. D.R.P. is short for Deutsches Reichspatent (“Patent of the German Empire”), used in 1877-1945.

German felt shoes, which were used during sentry in cold weather. They were pulled over the military boots to keep warm. Each boot weighs almost 1.7 kg.
The shaft is made of thick felt, and the back part and edges are reinforced with leather. The front opening is covered by a leather tongue, and each boot is closed with dual leather straps with metal buckles. The lower parts of the boots are made of leather, and the wooden soles are approximately 2 cm thick. The boots are size 29, which corresponds to shoe size 44–45.
A leather tag with the manufacturer’s stamp is sewn on the inside of the shaft. These boots were produced in 1941 by Anton Sartowski Schuhfabrik in Berlin.
The Norwegian Armed Forces used such boots until the 1990s. Narvik War Museum’s collections contains several pairs of German sentry boots, donated by various donors.
